Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground
Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground and Nature Reserve extends across 16 acres of rural South Warwickshire, on the edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Opened in 2006, Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground was once a field in hay and is now a wonderful mix of ecological habitats, with growing native woodland, wildflower meadows, grassland, hedgerows, a pond and wetland. There are countless projects focusing on specific aspects of nature, from the butterfly stones to the bee bank, hibernacula and nest boxes.
Burials can be arranged using our own caring and supportive arrangement service, meaning funerals can be personal, gentle and family-oriented – without the men in black. Or equally we are happy to work with funeral directors, allowing for more traditional services.
Our Longhouse is a beautiful oak-framed building with views over open landscape, which is used both for funeral services and for refreshments afterwards. In warmer months, families may choose to have funerals or picnics in our open Roundhouse or one of the mown areas. Those of all faiths and beliefs are welcome, and with no time limits funerals feel supported and relaxed.
There are grave plots in growing woodland, where a native tree can be planted and a Welsh slate plaque mark the spot. And in wildflower meadow and grassy rides, over the summer months graves become part of the flowers and grasses moving in the breeze, with plaques on pathside posts.
Visitors are welcome every day of the year. We hold nature walks, music recitals, shared memorial days and other events throughout the year, all of which allow families the chance to feel Sun Rising as a place of new life and natural healing.
